Bird Watching

One of the world’s top birding destinations, the Osa Peninsula represents Costa Rica’s last wildlife frontier: Gracious home to over 400 bird species, El Remanso unfolds over 185 acres (75 hectares) of primary and secondary rainforest – over habitats that house scarlet macaws and white hawks, chestnut-mandibled toucans and our bird-watching tours.

Waterfall Rappeling

Challenge yourself to exhilarating adrenaline and one of our most popular activities! Perfectly suited to beginners and seasoned adventurers alike, this is the perfect choice if you’re looking to take your rainforest experience to another level. Get to know the wildest side of El Remanso. (Not accessible on foot.)

Canopy Observation & Zip Line Tour

Soar in the spectacle of morning in the jungle, from a bird’s-eye view! Following a short hike along the forest ridge, you’ll cross our amazing suspension bridges and ascend close to canopy level. Cross the canyon from on high and scan the trees for swinging monkeys, singing toucans, and sleeping sloths.

Night Tour

As the peninsula fades to night, the rainforest awakens and your senses sharpen. Discover and uncover the hidden treasures of the darkness – the moths, snakes, frogs and other wildlife that wake up only when the sun goes down.

Dolphin & Whale watching

A guest favorite! Get up close and personal with the incredible dolphins of the Golfo Dulce, one of only four tropical fjords in the world. Our “sweet gulf” is home to a wide variety of wildlife – dolphins, whales (August-November), rays, whale sharks (February) and sea turtles, among them. Depending on weather and visibility, you’ll also go snorkeling or swimming on the other side of the gulf.

Surfing Lessons

Tackle the three challenging and exhilarating breaks of Cabo Matapalo, one of southern Costa Rica’s most famous surfing beaches. There are waves for both beginners and advanced surfers, and our experienced instructors work with you one-on-one to develop the skills you want to build. Hang diez!

Mangrove & Sunset Kayak

Within the unique setting of the Golfo Dulce, paddle into an activity appropriate for all ages, interests, and skill levels. Depending on the tide, you could visit a beautiful beach (go ahead, stop for a swim!) or paddle into the mangroves to explore local flora and fauna: fish, birds, rays and even dolphins abound. Depending on the time, you may also catch the sunset and breathtaking view of the gulf’s glowing water and imposing green mountains.

Horseback Riding

Spend two hours riding through the rainforest, along a river, and down magnificent Pacific beach! Along the way, you’ll spot startling scenery, majestic birds, and an embarrassment of wildlife. Your tour guide is our neighbor, who shows you the ways of the rainforest through the eyes of a nature lover.
