Very active or more relaxed, especially focused on birds or with a general interest in wildlife, take your pick! Duration and time of day are key, so you can choose from a Long Guided Nature Hike, a Short Guided Nature Hike and a Night Hike.
On a Long Guided Nature Hike, you will experience 3h30 in the rainforest with one of our specialized resident guides. As you get the best introduction to this lush and vibrant rainforest, you will have a skillful jungle lover spot animals for you, learn what to look for and understand how everything works together. As you take in all the breathtaking sights and sounds and stand quietly as the forest comes alive around you, just make sure your camera is on and that your mind is alert!
The Short Guided Nature Hike will take you on a 2-hour adventure with one of our resident guides and will show you some of the secrets of the rainforest in a shorter amount of time. This is the perfect choice for those who would rather take shorter trips into the rainforest but want to make sure they’re not missing out on anything!
And as the sun goes down, the Night Hike allows you to step into the other side of the rainforest, showing you all that comes to life when we all go to sleep! With the help of a guide, you will have a newfound appreciation of the jungle! The darker the night, the sharper the senses: enormous secular trees show their true size, small animals that go unnoticed during the day will suddenly make an appearance, and wildlife that is active during the day will be tucked in a hollow log or balanced on a branch somewhere as they let themselves be seen in their most vulnerable state.
Hikes are the best way to see the exotic animals of the rainforest! You can see scarlet macaws, toucans, parrots, hawks, tanagers, and many other types of birds (over 400 species identified in the local area)! As for mammals, the most commonly seen are the 4 species of monkeys you will find in Costa Rica, all in one place: the howler monkey, the spider monkey, the white-faced capuchin and the squirrel monkey. Luck be on your side, you will also see white-lipped and collared peccaries, coatis, agoutis, tayras, kinkajous, sloths, armadillos, and anteaters! As for those animals that are harder to see in person, our camera traps will do the trick “catching” pumas, ocelots, margays, jaguarundis, and jaguars! Not to mention the host of amphibians and insects waiting for you to spot them!
