Puerto Jimenez, a very remote village in the 60’s, is nowadays one of the most important towns on the Osa Peninsula. Puerto Jimenez is located in the south of the Puntarenas province, and it is the "gate" to the impressive and remote National Park of Corcovado. This small town is the last one before entering the national park; The Corcovado National Park’s office is in Puerto Jimenez and it is important that tourists with interest in visiting the park pass by and get all the information needed before heading towards the beautiful and impressive views and wildlife that the Corcovado National Park offers.

Puerto Jimenez is located in the Golfo Dulce, a tropical fjord of the Osa Peninsula. In the beaches of Puerto Jimenez you can relax and admire the beauties that the Osa Peninsula has to offer. There are many restaurants and bars here that you can visit and Puerto Jimenez offers all kind of services such as bank, pharmacy and doctor. Don’t miss swimming near the dock, where the water is calm thanks to the Golfo Dulce and if you get lucky you can even see whales from a the nice little bars by the bay.
From Puerto Jimenez, and in direction towards the National Park of Corcovado, you can also visit the little and remote surfing village of Cabo Matapalo, which has the best surf breaks of the Osa Peninsula.

Puerto Jimenez has been historically a logging and gold mining town. When the National Park of Corcovado was created, the locals quit these activities and started to transition into the tourism industry, as all the area is protected. Around the Puerto Jimenez area there are many things to do. Puerto Jimenez has some nightlife, but as in all towns you always need to be careful.

You can fly or drive to get to Puerto Jimenez. There are several flying options and car rentals. Reaching Puerto Jimenez by bus can be very long but you will be able to get to know the country well. What is sure is that if you want to visit the Osa Peninsula and the National Park of Corcovado, Puerto Jimenez is a must.
