The enchanting colors of the male turquoise cotinga (Cotinga ridgwayi) make it one of the most gratifying birds to see whether you’re a declared bird-watcher or just an occasional hiker in the rainforest. The Osa Peninsula is well known for its immense biodiversity, including more than 365 bird species, and the turquoise cotinga is just one of the many frequent visitors that come to our cabins and restaurant deck in search of a tasty treat from the surrounding cecropia trees and figs. Still, any serious birder can tell you the female turquoise cotinga is much more elusive and, though not as magnificent at first glance, is a much more rewarding sighting because of its rarity.
This week our guests Fred and Rosemary were lucky to experience such a sighting! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us!
Enjoy the short video taken through the scope!

Filled with joy and great family energy, El Remanso staff and guests celebrated a very merry “Green” Christmas (to quote our recent guest John Frykman) in the southern rainforest of Costa Rica.
While some of our guests decided to experience a small-town Costa Rican Christmas mass in Puerto Jiménez, others chose to spend the night playing games and relaxing in the restaurant. We all had a wonderful dinner on Christmas Eve and then a delicious turkey and buffet on Christmas day. Instead of Christmas trees and Christmas carols, we let the natural sounds and colors of the forest become the perfect setting for celebration.
Merry Christmas!

Looking forward to a wonderful new year in the rainforest of the Osa Peninsula, and celebrating the hard work from last season, El Remanso held its annual staff party this past weekend. This is the one and only day of the year when the usually very peaceful main restaurant is transformed into a wild open buffet-karaoke-dance floor!
Our marvelous guests: Luke, Raf, Amelia and Roger joined in with us on the fun performing “A Hard Day’s Night”, and dancing to the talented voice of our masseuse Laura and our driver Gerardo. Everyone showed their best energy and artistic attributes dancing and singing Mexican “rancheras”.
Thanks for a wonderful time guys!
